SPCA's "Paws for Love" program was recently approved for stress relief events for essential workers. As such, the pups visited Mount St. Mary's Hospital for some stress-reducing therapy on Thursday, in the grassy grove between Mount St. Mary's and Our Lady of Peace Nursing Home. Pet owners and their sweet dogs greeted hospital staff, physicians and nurses.

Lt. Gov. Kathy Hochul joined Village of Lewiston officials in officially opening the new, multimillion-dollar waterfront on Wednesday. Improvements at the popular Lewiston Landing include new shoreline stabilization measures to protect the area from future flooding and the installation of new floating docks, a new pathway with railings, improved lighting and power stations.

The Town of Porter informs that deliveries of new, 95-gallon waste totes continue to residences. Begun Aug. 24, the new trash receptacles are designed specifically for the auto-loading of weekly curbside trash collections at residences by the town's solid waste provider, Modern Disposal Services.

The Youngstown Lions Club announced its newly elected officers were installed recently at an outdoor ceremony in the Town of Porter. The new officers slate for 2020-21 includes Terry Cummings, president; John MacArthur, first vice president; Richard Allen, second vice president; John Rolfe, treasurer; Suzanne DeJoseph, recording secretary; and Debby Comerford, corresponding secretary.

The Youngstown Free Library held an electronics drop-off on Saturday, Aug. 8. Organizers said the response was overwhelming and raised over $4,000 for the library. Coordinator Lauren Morse was helped by volunteers from the board of directors And The Friends of the Library.

The Como Deli on Center Street reopened to customers on Monday. The Village of Lewiston eatery had been closed since early spring, when "New York State on PAUSE" was enacted to slow the coronavirus spread.
