The Town of Lewiston voted Thursday to withdraw its endorsement of the "Lewiston Public Art Project's" metal art frames. Council members rescinded the third part of the Lewiston Council on the Arts' proposal - opting to not present this component for Niagara River Greenway funding - based on recent actions taken by village trustees.

The Upward Niagara Chamber of Commerce and Christina Mackenzie celebrated a ribbon-cutting for Satori Permanent Makeup Studio, located at 761 Cayuga St., in the Village of Lewiston. Mackenzie was formerly operating out of her husband's business, Rock Solid Tattoos, but grew to the point of needing a larger space to work with clients.

Artpark & Company used extra-small font on its heavy-stock, 8-1/2-by-11 2023 season poster in order to cram in as many listings as possible. It doesn't escape me that this typographical method reflects the standard the performing, visual, educational and environmental arts venue has set by jam-packing summers with concerts, walks, tours and talks.

The Lewiston Town Board took steps Monday to get a handle on short-term rentals. While other communities continue to debate the "What to do?" question, Lewiston approved an open-ended moratorium that effectively puts the matter on hold until all questions concerning zoning codes and permitted uses are reviewed in detail.

The affirmative vote follows nine months of discussions amongst elected leaders seeking uniformity and safety on Center Street, and business owners looking to keep the exterior advertising they say is key to attracting walking traffic.

Lake trout research underway on Lake Ontario is part of the U.S.-Canada Cooperative Science and Monitoring Initiative (CSMI) field year on the lake. Research collecting data on lake trout movement using acoustic telemetry tags is being led by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) in collaboration with the U.S. Geologic Survey (USGS), New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Fisheries, with outreach assistance from New York Sea Grant (NYSG).
