Eight variances granted to Ellicott Development in July 2016 for its Lewiston plaza project were declared void on Tuesday. The village's Zoning Board of Appeals said the Buffalo real estate company failed to commence construction within the period of time listed in municipal code.

AFL/CIO Niagara Orleans Central Labor Council held its 27th annual Workers Memorial Day observation on Saturday. The event took place at the Workers Memorial Monument in Reservoir Park, located just off Route 31 at the base of the New York Power Authority reservoir. Workers, their friends and families, attended the ceremony, which was emceed by Labor Liaison Bill Jakobi.

In honor of National Travel & Tourism Week, Destination Niagara USA honored more than 700 employees from the hospitality and tourism sector on Tuesday. A luncheon was held inside the Niagara Falls Conference Center on Old Falls Street. Prizes were awarded, and tourist entities were given booths to provide more information on their respective summer seasons.

The National Comedy Center, the first nonprofit cultural institution and national-scale visitor experience dedicated to the art of comedy, announces its opening: Aug. 1-5, coinciding with the organization's annual Lucille Ball Comedy Festival in Jamestown. The new, 37,000-square-foot, $50 million facility tells the story of comedy from its origins through the present, with more than 50 immersive, interactive exhibits.

Following significant discussion, the Lewiston Town Board, by a 4-1 vote, gave its endorsement Monday of a local law to approve the amended Rubino brothers' concept PUD - with conditions - for a proposed development off Upper Mountain Road near Bronson Drive. The planned unit development covers 107 units, including 91 patio homes and four-unit townhouse buildings on property currently owned by Donald Smith.
