Cuomo signs legislation making it easier for families to find & collect unclaimed child support payment

Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Friday signed legislation (S.7153/A.7942) making it easier for families to locate and collect their unclaimed child support payments. The new law establishes an efficient, streamlined process for unclaimed funds to be turned to the state comptroller's office, where families then can more efficiently locate the payments they are entitled to receive.
Cuomo signs legislation relating to a civil cause of action for human trafficking

Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Wednesday signed legislation (S.672/A.3186) that allows victims of human trafficking to recover actual, compensatory and punitive damages or other appropriate relief. This legislation also amends current law that requires an action to be commenced within 10 years of victimization to state an action can be commenced within 15 years after victimization has occurred.

Andrew Cuomo announced 1,813 jobs will be available for at-risk youth across these three areas in the ZIP codes that make up each zone: 14701,14204, 14206, 14207, 14208, 14209, 14210, 14211, 14212, 14214, 14215, 14301, 14303, 14304 and 14305 in the Western New York area; 14605, 14606, 14608, 14609, 14611, 14613, 14615, 14619 and 14621 in the Rochester area; and 13202, 13203, 13204, 13205, 13207, 13210 and 13224 in the Syracuse area.

This new measure builds upon legislation ending child marriage, which the governor signed in 2017 by removing the ability for 17-year-olds to be married with parental and judicial consent.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Tuesday signed legislation (S.3941/A.6040) expanding New York state's definition of telemarketing to include marketing by text message. New Yorkers have protection against unwanted robocalls under state law, but texting was not previously defined as telemarketing, exempting it from those protections. This legislation closes that loophole.
Higgins pushes for Child Tax Credit permanence on eve of first payment

The AAA family is deeply saddened by the death of one of our drivers over Independence Day weekend. 32-year-old Glenn Ewing was placing a AAA member's vehicle on the back of a tow truck when he was hit by a passing vehicle. Congressman Brian Higgins welcomed news U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) launched a new pilot program to allow Trusted Traveler Program members to conduct renewal interviews virtually. The initiative comes after Higgins sent a letter requesting CBP and the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) resume NEXUS interviews, despite ongoing travel restrictions between the U.S. and Canada, by allowing the required in-person interview to be held online.
