Erie County Family Justice Center Executive Director Mary Travers Murphy was presented a national award from the U.S. Congressional Victims' Rights Caucus. Congressman Brian Higgins nominated Murphy for the "Ed Stout Memorial Award for Outstanding Victim Advocacy" and introduced her at today's ceremony on Capitol Hill.

The Erie County Department of Central Police Services has announced T-Mobile has joined the list of wireless carriers supporting "text to 9-1-1" in Erie County, and along with Verizon Wireless, Sprint and AT&T, is now fully involved in the new initiative announced earlier this month by Erie County Executive Mark C. The Village of Lewiston is raising the tax rate from $7.26 per $1,000 of assessed valuation to $7.38 for the next fiscal year. The 1.68 percent bump, a 12-cent increase, means a land owner with a property valued at $100,000, for example, will see a tax increase of $12 for fiscal year 2015-16.

State Sen. Rob Ortt, R-C-I-North Tonawanda, today announced $3 million he championed to help keep military bases, such as the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station, in the forefront.
