The Western New York Regional Economic Development Council met today and heard presentations regarding two new programs: the Western Region Corporation Downtown Revitalization Program and WNYREDC Agriculture Development Fund. Both are now accepting applications.

Congressman Brian Higgins joined Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro in introducing H.R. 5580, the Accelerating Biomedical Research Act. This legislation will incrementally increase funding for the National Institutes of Health over the next seven years. The DeLauro-Higgins bill is the House companion of S.2658 introduced by Sen. Harkin, a longstanding champion of NIH funding.

KeyBank has announced it united the operations of its Western New York region, comprised of its Buffalo and Rochester markets, and its Eastern New York region, comprised of its Central New York, Capital Region and Hudson Valley markets, to form a new, single New York region.
Gary Quenneville, the current regional sales executive for the Western New York region, will lead the newly unified New York region. The new region has more than 3,000 employees covering 40 counties across the state, 232 branches, a technology center (Albany) and a contact center (Buffalo).

The following incidents occurred from Sept. 1 to Sept. 7, as reported by the Grand Island Fire Co. A total of 38 calls were answered by the department during this period. The GIFC has now responded to 1,035 calls so far this year. Last year at this time, the GIFC had responded to 992 calls.
