Residents squawk, fowl law axed

With the Quasar controversy, the Wheatfield Town Board has grown used to crowds of residents in the meeting room lining up to protest. But at Monday's Town Board meeting, a new, surprisingly large group showed up to peck down a proposed ordinance on the keeping of fowl in residential areas.

Assemblyman John Ceretto, R-C-I-Lewiston, will host Julie Otto and Monica Daigler in Albany on Monday. They will arrive to support labeling legislation sponsored by Ceretto that would require food products produced from fertilizer made with sewage sludge (biosolids) to be labeled accordingly.

A coalition of 16 mayors from across the state has endorsed Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman's Abandoned Property Neighborhood Relief Act and called on legislative leaders - Senate co-Leaders Sens. Dean Skelos and Jeff Klein, and Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver - to bring the bill to the floor for a vote. The legislation would provide support to communities that have been plagued by vacant and abandoned properties.
