Buffalo Sabres general manager Tim Murray today announced Ted Nolan was named head coach of the Sabres, after serving as the club's interim head coach since Nov. 13.
"We are very happy to get this deal done and have Ted Nolan as our permanent head coach going forward," Murray said.

State Sen. Mark Grisanti has announced his efforts were successful in obtaining additional funding for the Town of Hamburg in the 2014 state budget from hosting video lottery terminals. Grisanti was able to secure more than $865,679 for Hamburg and $288,560 for Erie County (a total of $1,154,239).

Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman was joined Saturday by Buffalo Congressman Brian Higgins, Tonawanda Town Supervisor Anthony Caruana and Tonawanda Police Chief Anthony Palombo at the Tonawanda Police Department to announce Higgins' sponsorship of a bill - recently proposed in the U.S. House of Representatives - that would require a kill switch on smartphones to deter thieves and help end the violent epidemic of smartphone thefts.

The Buffalo Sabres will officially retire the jersey of goaltender Dominik Hasek, one of the most prolific goaltenders in NHL history, in a ceremony during the 2014-15 season. Hasek, who was the fifth and final Sabres player to wear No. 39, will be the seventh player in franchise history to receive the honor of having his jersey retired to the rafters.

Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo has announced the New York Power Authority Board of Trustees approved an allocation of low-cost hydropower to Trinity Packaging Corp. of Cheektowaga for a planned $6.5 million expansion of its manufacturing plant, and a commitment to retain 129 jobs and create 21 new, good-paying jobs.
"One of Western New York's top resources - clean, low-cost hydropower - is a key element in reinvigorating the region's economy," Cuomo said.

Empire State Development has announced Praxair Inc. is expanding its business and building a steam methane reformer to increase the supply of hydrogen for its liquid hydrogen plant in Niagara Falls. This investment will not only retain 78 jobs, but also serve growing customer needs for hydrogen in the Northeast and Midwest regions of the U.S., and southeastern Canada. Empire State Development, the state's economic development agency, will provide a $1 million capital grant to assist the company with its facility and equipment investment.
