Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo today signed legislation to help protect the health and safety of dogs and cats across New York state by authorizing local municipalities to adopt more stringent laws to regulate pet dealers.
"The legislation announced today is a win for those individuals and communities across the state that have fought for the health and safety of animals under the care of pet dealers," Cuomo said. "While existing state law will be upheld, today's legislation will give support to the many local municipalities that want to ensure stronger safeguards are in place to protect the animals in their communities."

The Center for the Arts at the University at Buffalo has received a grant of $83,200 from Roswell Park Alliance Foundation quality of life committee. The funds will provide four artist stipends in the center's Arts in Healthcare Program at Roswell Park Cancer Institute, now in its sixth year.
The program includes six professional artists in residence, who bring their specialized art forms and skills to patients at Roswell Park.

In 2011, the Firemen's Association of the State of New York unveiled a historic educational initiative called the "Higher Education Learning Plan," or "HELP." This statewide community college tuition reimbursement program is geared toward recruiting and retaining volunteer firefighters throughout New York. The Buffalo Stars hockey organization will expand its footprint in the 2014-15 hockey season with the formation of the "Buffalo Stars North" or Niagara Falls Stars.
