NBC Sports Group and Mecum Auctions, the world leader in live auctions of collector cars, announced a multi-year agreement to present coverage of Mecum car auctions across NBC, NBCSN and the Esquire Network, which is part of the NBCUniversal family of networks. The three-year agreement, which begins in 2014, will provide for more than 425 hours of programming across all three channels.

Early Thursday morning, more than 100 British soldiers marched down River Road, from Stella Niagara to Old Fort Niagara, to re-enact the taking of Fort Niagara by the British on Dec. 19, 1813. One hundred and ten spectators in the fort watched as the British came through the postern gate and proceeded to wrest the fort from the Americans after a short battle.

City of North Tonawanda Mayor Robert G. Ortt and his wife, Meghan, will host the fourth annual Snowflake Ball charity event Saturday, Feb. 1, 2014, from 8-11 p.m., at the Knights of Columbus, 755 Erie Ave. It will be a night of music, food, cocktails and enjoyment. Over the past three years, this event has raised more than $20,000 for local nonprofits and community organizations. All proceeds from this year's event will benefit the Twin Cities Community Outreach.

Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo has announced the New York Power Authority board of trustees approved allocations of low-cost hydropower to three manufacturers in Erie and Orleans counties that will lead to the creation of 643 new jobs and capital investments of approximately $206 million.
"Today's low-cost hydropower allocations are a major win for Western New York, helping to create more than 600 new jobs, while reducing business costs to support the manufacturing industry," he said. "As we grow the manufacturing sector in Western New York, the state will continue to leverage these kinds of investments to strengthen the local economy."

The New York Power Authority board of trustees approved NYPA's 2014 operating plan (budget) that continues to invest in its 16 power plants and transmission facilities - critical New York state energy infrastructure - and in its cost-effective energy efficiency projects at local and state government facilities statewide.
The 2014 operating plan includes an operations and maintenance budget of $379.3 million; a capital budget of $279.3 million, an increase of $87 million over the budgeted amount for 2013; and an energy services budget of $222.3 million, an increase of $22 million over the 2013 budgeted amount.

Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo has announced the New York Power Authority board of trustees approved another round of low-cost power allocations under his statewide ReCharge NY program. The nearly 33 megawatts of low-cost power will be distributed among 47 enterprises at 53 facilities and are expected to leverage an estimated $1 billion in capital investments. This round of allocations is supporting nearly 17,000 jobs.
"ReCharge NY has been creating and retaining thousands of jobs for New Yorkers since power began flowing under the program in July 2012," Cuomo said.

In comments submitted Monday to the federal Environmental Protection Agency, New York Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman and a coalition of attorneys general from 11 other states and the District of Columbia argue that, in order to substantially reduce dangerous climate-change pollution from existing fossil-fuel power plants, the agency must both set strong emission limits and give states flexibility on how they choose to meet those limits.
The comments lay out the legal requirements for the EPA to take action against climate-change pollution under the federal Clean Air Act.

NBC has greenlit the 12-hour miniseries "A.D.," a follow-up to the miniseries "The Bible" that aired on History earlier this year from creators Mark Burnett and Roma Downey.
The project will be produced by LightWorkers Media with Burnett, Downey and Richard Bedser serving as executive producers.
"A.D." will most likely air in spring 2015.

When Niagara County lawmakers meet Tuesday, they will receive copies of a letter Legislator Michael A. Hill, R-Middleport, sent to Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo late last week urging him to sign a bill to protect volunteer firefighters from being fired because of commitments to their communities.
If Cuomo fails to sign the bill into law by midnight Wednesday, it will die, despite widespread bipartisan support in the Senate and Assembly - as well as urgent lobbying by FASNY, the Firefighters Association of the State of New York.
