WNY Heroes Flight takes off from Buffalo

State Sen. George Maziarz has announced the day has finally arrived: the WNY Heroes trip flies today! Twenty-eight World War II and Korean veterans from Western New York were flown this morning to Washington, D.C., to visit the World War II Memorial, Korean War Memorial and other area monuments and memorials.

DiNapoli: Financial challenges remain for state despite progress

New York state spending declined for the second straight year in fiscal year 2012-13 while debt reached an all-time high of $63.5 billion, according to the annual report on the financial condition of New York state released by Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli.

"State policy decisions in the past three years have helped New York better align state spending with revenue, but difficulties remain," DiNapoli said.

Reid Capizzi, pictured, infant son of Mike and Laura Suess-Capizzi of Lewiston, has been selected as the baby who will be part of the dramatic re-enactment that will take place during the unveiling of the Tuscarora Heroes Monument on Dec. 19. The re-enactment will depict the burning of Lewiston by the British in 1813, when Lewiston citizens ran for their lives down Center Street to escape.
