Grigg-Lewis Foundation to fund kitchen upgrade at Community Missions' youth facility

For the past 18 years, Aurora House, located in Lockport and operated by Community Missions, has worked to transform the lives of youth diagnosed as severely emotionally disturbed. Cuomo launches development competition to revitalize downtown Niagara Falls

Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo announced Thursday the state and the City of Niagara Falls will partner to launch the Downtown Niagara Falls Development Challenge, a major competition to select a team of world-class designers, developers and operators to envision and develop signature projects in the downtown area that will attract significant private sector investment and accelerate the revitalization of Niagara Falls. The goal of the competition is to transform downtown Niagara Falls into the ultimate tourist destination to attract and retain visitors from around the world, by building and enhancing the amenities and attractions available in the area.
Schneiderman, DiNapoli announce arrest of Town of Niagara Supervisor Steven Richards

Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman and Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli today announced the arrest of Steven C. Richards, the Town of Niagara supervisor, for "engaging in an ongoing scheme to steal town property and use town employees and equipment for his own personal gain." The Joint Task Force on Public Integrity is a cooperative effort between Schneiderman's and DiNapoli's offices to "root out public corruption and maximize the resources of each office."

The City of Lockport will mark the beginning of restoration of the famed Erie Canal Flight of Five Locks with a community celebration on Wednesday, Oct. 9, beginning at 9:30 a.m. on Canal Street in the heart of downtown Lockport.

Lockport Mayor Michael W. Tucker will join federal, state and local dignitaries aboard the Tug DeWitt Clinton in the Flight of Five Flotilla, which will arrive in the Erie Canal Locks. Officials will ascend to Canal Street, the centerpiece of the Locks Heritage District, for a brief program. Emmett Belknap Intermediate School students will sing canal-era ballads prior to the start of the program.
