NHL: Blackhawks-Capitals on NBCSN is cable's most-watched season opener on record

NBCSN's coverage of last night's game between the Washington Capitals and Chicago Blackhawks to start the 2013-14 NHL season was watched by an average of 935,000 viewers, making it the most-watched season opener on cable on record (data available since 1993), and the second-most watched regular-season game ever on NBCSN.

Attorney General Schneiderman sues to prevent reopening of Amigone Funeral Home crematory over 'persistent environmental violations'

Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman and State Department of Environmental Conservation Commissioner Joe Martens announced a lawsuit Tuesday to prevent Amigone Funeral Home Inc. from reopening its crematory in a residential neighborhood in the Town of Tonawanda. The crematory, which the A.G.'s camp said has a long history of generating offensive odors, soot, and excessive noise into the neighborhood, has been the source of persistent community complaints. While a July 2012 agreement with Schneiderman's office resulted in Amigone suspending operations at the crematory, the funeral home has recently signaled its intention to restart operations.

New York State Sen. Mark Grisanti, R-I-Buffalo, and State Assemblyman Sean Ryan, D-WF-Buffalo, announced legislation they sponsored in the Senate and Assembly to improve Erie County's land bank has been signed into law by Gov. Andrew Cuomo. The legislation (S5167, A7245) makes corrections to the statewide land bank legislation that was passed in 2011.

To combat the continuing problem of vacant homes, New York state passed the land bank legislation, which empowered counties and municipalities to create land banks to purchase vacant and abandoned properties.
