Applebee's teams up with law enforcement to raise funds for Special Olympics New York

On Thursday, Sept. 12, during dinner hours (5-8 p.m.), law enforcement officers and local officials will take their oath to "serve and protect" to a new level, trading in their handcuffs and badges for menus and serving trays at the "Law and Orders" event taking place at various Applebee's Neighborhood Grill & Bar locations throughout Western New York.

Grand Island town justice candidate Mark J. Frentzel took every party line in Tuesday's primary election, outpacing Joy M. Carrier LaMarca.

Christopher K. Aronica (81 votes) and Beverly A. Kinney (77) took the two town council spots, outdrawing Raymond A. Billica (54).

Superintendent of highways candidate William M. Stanley defeated James B. Tomkins by a 10-vote margin, 76-66.

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation reminds hunters that chronic wasting disease continues to pose a potential threat to New York's wild white-tailed deer herd, and hunters should take precautions to prevent the spread of the disease. Late last year, CWD was found on a deer farm in Pennsylvania and, in early 2013, CWD was confirmed in Pennsylvania's wild white-tailed deer herd.
