"To properly acknowledge and pay tribute to 75 years of effective, binational service to the Western New York and Southern Ontario regions, the commission has a series of exciting events and activities planned for the second-half of 2013," said NFBC Chairperson Thomas G. Pryce.

For its second consecutive year, the Niagara County SPCA is hosting the "Dog Days of Summer," a celebratory event dedicated to the furry companions pet owners enjoy and adore.
The event takes place on Saturday, Aug. 3, and Sunday, Aug. 4, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on shelter grounds, located at 2100 Lockport Road in Wheatfield. The event is non-exclusive and free of charge.
Amy Lewis, the shelter director for the Niagara County SPCA, believes the main purpose of the event is to "Get people onto shelter grounds and bring a bit of fun to the SPCA."

Some Wheatfield and Town of Niagara residents are still mopping up after last Friday evening's major thunderstorms that took down tree branches, and flooded basements and roads in scattered areas of the towns.
