National Mortgage Settlement Monitor Joseph A. Smith Jr. today released an update on the consumer relief activities of the five banks that are parties to the National Mortgage Settlement, as reported by the banks through March 31, 2013.

The town's Memorial Day Services will be held on Monday, May 27, at 10 a.m. at DeGlopper Park, on the corner of Baseline Road and Grand Island Boulevard. Gold Star Mothers Shirley Luther and Mary Ann Crowe will be honored, the Roll will be called, the Honor Guard will give a gun salute and a wreath will be placed at the monument in the park. The guest speaker will be Lt. Col. Paul T. Dansereau.

Shortly after 9 p.m. on Tuesday, May 14, Grand Island Fire Co. rescue personnel responded to a two-car motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Baseline and Fix roads. The force of impact caused one vehicle to careen off the roadway and up against a utility pole.

State Sen. Mark Grisanti, R,-I-60, has announced passage of Senate bill S. 1710, which would provide green development home tax exemptions. Grisanti's bill would allow a tax exemption of 35 percent for real property for a period of no longer than 20 years if authorized by the local municipality.

Erie Canal Harbor Development Corp. cut the ribbon Friday on its 520-linear-foot dock extension along the Central Wharf at Canalside in Buffalo, doubling the dock's length and bringing the total amount of berthing space to nearly 1,000 feet. It will allow for up to 40 additional boats to dock at Canalside.
