On Monday, the Supreme Court of the United States declined to hear the case of Kachalsky, et al. v. Cacace, et al. challenging New York state's handgun licensing statute, which requires individuals to demonstrate "proper cause" to obtain a license to carry concealed handguns in public.

Congressman Chris Collins, NY-27, is announcing the dredging of three Lake Ontario harbors is on track to happen next year. Collins said the Army Corp of Engineers now has the funding it needs to perform maintenance dredging in Oak Orchard, Olcott and Wilson harbors.

Beaver Island State Park will be offering a safe boating course from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 18, in the lower level of the Beaver Island Clubhouse. This course is for ages 10 and up and is recommended for recreational boaters and paddlers. This class is required for personal watercraft operators.

The Mount St. Mary's Hospital Foundation will hold its third annual reverse draw fundraiser on Wednesday, May 1, at The Como Restaurant, 2220 Pine Ave., Niagara Falls. The event is the continuation of an event that, for 34 years, was conducted by the Temple Beth Israel. In 2011, the leadership of the Temple bestowed the fundraiser to Mount St. Mary's.
