YMCA Buffalo Niagara is celebrating its "sensational seniors" the week of Sept. 23 to 29. Seniors can take part in a variety of activities such as senior socials, blood pressure screenings, potluck lunches, massage therapy and more at the Ken-Ton (535 Belmont Ave.), Delaware (2564 Delaware Ave., Buffalo), Southtowns (1620 Southwestern Blvd., West Seneca), and Northeast (4433 Main St., Amherst) branches.

Microsoft phone scam reaches area residents

At 6:44 p.m. on Sept. 9, Lewiston police were called to a Saunders Settlement Road home after getting a report of suspected fraudulent activity. The complainant had received a phone call from an alleged employee of Microsoft, who actually went so far as to give a fake employee identification number. After convincing the complainant that his computer had a virus, the suspect lead him to turn on the Remote Assistance feature of Windows, allowing full access to the computer. After removing several personal documents, the complainant's computer crashed.

Ceretto: naming of third arbiter in casino dispute significant progress

On Thursday, Assemblyman John D. Ceretto, R-I- Lewiston, called the naming of former Court of Appeals Chief Judge Judith Kaye as the third arbiter in the dispute between the Seneca Nation of Indians and the state of New York "significant progress." The arbitration process will be settled by three arbiters, one named by the Senecas, one named by the state of New York, and the third, Kaye, agreed upon by both arbiters.
