Grand Island Fire Chief Kevin Koch reports that two new specially equipped EMS "patrol" bikes have joined Grand Island Fire Department's special operations equipment for rapid response during major public events, such as parades, block parties, fundraisers, etc. These highly mobile units can provide on-the-spot basic life support treatment while alerting medics as well as transport, if needed.

Above and Beyond: Island home destroyed despite major firefighting effort

At 6:16 p.m. on Monday, June 11, Grand Island firefighters responded to a reported structure fire at the home of Jeremy and Elizabeth Lange, after multiple calls for GIFC assistance.

Fire Chief Kevin Koch reported that the fire spread so quickly that the entire unattached garage was totally engulfed in flames when the first engine arrived on location within three minutes. Engines, Nos. 3, 4, and 5 and Ladder Truck No. 6 commenced a sustained interior and exterior attack on the house, but fire suppression crews encountered difficulty in keeping pace with the fire, which had penetrated the attic loft area directly beneath the roof of the house.

Ortt announces concert plans for Gratwick Riverside Park

North Tonawanda Mayor Robert G. Ortt announced at a press conference the plans for a concert on Sunday, July 15, at Gratwick Riverside Park. The show will begin at 4 p.m.

Representatives of headline sponsor Cornerstone Community Federal Credit Union and several other high-level North Tonawanda officials joined Ortt in announcing Buckcherry with Fuel will be the featured bands performing at what Ortt said is one of the most beautiful venues along the Niagara River.

The concert will be free for everyone attending; however, there will be a $5 charge for parking at the park. Food and beverage will be sold at the venue, and no food, backpacks, or coolers will be permitted at the park for this event.
