Ceretto, Gabryszak introduce bill to make state parks business-friendly

Assemblyman John D. Ceretto, R-I-Lewiston, and Assemblyman Dennis Gabryszak, D-Cheektowaga announced Wednesday the introduction of legislation that would reverse the state's Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation Law 13.07 as it pertains to Niagara Falls and Niagara Falls State Park. This measure currently gives the State Parks department the authority to restrict signs and advertising structures on an adjacent municipality within 500 feet of a state park.

Legislature backs calls for new mission for 107th Air Wing

Niagara County lawmakers unanimously backed a proposal to assign a new mission to the 107th Air Wing at the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station after a freshman legislator whose district includes the vulnerable air base asked colleagues to get behind the proposal as "the best option currently on the table."

Legislator Kathryn Lance, R-Wheatfield, introduced a resolution in the County Legislature Tuesday that made the deliberative body one of the first to formally back a plan, cobbled together by a federally chartered panel of governors, that would shift the 107th Airlift Wing—which currently flies C-130 transport aircraft—to a reconnaissance role.

Niagara Hospice volunteers provided over 16,000 hours of support last year doing everything from delivering meals to patients with nutritional needs to helping with clerical and fundraising tasks. Volunteers make up 5 percent of the clinical workforce hours at Niagara Hospice, as mandated by Medicare.

State Sen. Mark Grisanti, R-60th District, passed the Senate version of an Assembly bill that will change the labor law to make it an authorized absence for members of the volunteer fire department and volunteer ambulance squads when they respond to a state of emergency declared by the federal or state government. Employers will not be able to charge the time to vacation, sick leave or other excused absences.

Grisanti introduces 'The Sewage Pollution Right To Know Act'

State Sen. Mark Grisanti, R-60th District, last week announced sponsorship of the "Sewage Pollution Right To Know Act" to amend the environmental conservation law to establish a procedure for the operator of any sewage treatment plant to notify the public of all raw sewage overflows within 24 hours. The bill spells out all the information that must be reported to the New York State Department of Health and the Department of Environmental Conservation, including when, where and how much has been spilled. The purpose of this legislation is to provide valuable information to the public about spills in a timely manner and in an effective way.
