Living history re-enactor Ted Schofield of Chaumont makes his own War of 1812 and Civil War uniforms by hand using period reproduction sewing implements. He says, "I do all hand work now to be more authentic in my interpretation of the 1812 period."

DiNapoli launches new fraud detection training initiative for not-for-profits

New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli today announced a new training program for not-for-profit officials to help them prevent and detect fraud and protect taxpayer dollars.

"New York not-for-profits manage billions of dollars. They contract with the state and other local governments to provide crucial services to New York families," DiNapoli said. "This training course will strengthen their financial management practices and ability to detect and prevent fraud."

Just in time for Easter, Niagara Frontier Publications' new Web contest seeks an answer to one of life's great questions: Which restaurant has the best fish fry?

We're looking for the freshest catches, the tastiest batters and the best bang for the buck. The restaurant with the most votes will receive a special recognition, bragging rights, and a full write-up in our three main newspapers (The Sentinel, The Tribune and The Dispatch).

Those nominating an eatery will enter to win a prize of their own. One lucky participant will be drawn from a hat and receive a $25 gift certificate to an area restaurant.

'Doctors with a Heart Day' a huge success

Dr. Glenda R. Rose and Dr. Thomas G. Barba and the staff of Rose Chiropractic in Lewiston held their 22th annual "Doctors with a Heart Day" on Saturday, Feb. 11. Chiropractic adjustments and examinations were exchanged for donations of food collected to benefit the Niagara Community Action Program's food pantry.
