Go 'Channel Smurfing'

NBCUniversal has joined forces with Columbia Pictures and Sony Pictures Animation to encourage viewers to go "Channel Smurfing" with a multiplatform advertising campaign spanning nine NBCUniversal properties promoting "The Smurfs," the hybrid live-action/computer-animated family comedy coming to theaters July 29.

This year, the Grand Island Lions Club's Special Kids Picnic entertained more than 800 kids and their chaperones to a day of food and fun, including boat rides, pony rides, face painting, music, hot dogs and hamburgers. The Lions rely on donations from the community to fund this event.

Hot Pepper Festival date change

Lewiston Music promoter Steve Goodman's debut "Hot Pepper & Salsa Festival" has been pushed back a few weeks. The Village of Lewiston approved use of Academy Park on Aug. 16 and 17 for the event, but that was too early for the man who just hosted the Lewiston Music Festival on July 8 and 9.
'Caribbean Experience' at Wilson Boat House

On July 13, the ladies nine and 18 hole leagues at the Niagara Falls Country Club got together to hold the annual "Go For Pink" golf tournament. The proceeds raised from the entry fee, hole sponsors, Chinese auction, raffle and donations were more than $6,000 and presented to Mount St. Mary's Hospital & Health Center's Breast Care Center.
Ceretto: New program will promote job creation and spur local economic development

Assemblyman John Ceretto, R-I-Lewiston, today expressed his support of Innovate NY, a startup equity fund designed to promote job creation, increase growth in entrepreneurship and spur economic development throughout the state. The program, which Ceretto helped pass this year, was signed into law by Gov. Andrew Cuomo yesterday.
