As part of the Country Fair and Community Yard Sale held by the Village of Lewiston Recreation Department on Sept. 17, there will be a new clothesline show of historic pictures of Lewiston.

The Castellani Art Museum of Niagara University is inviting the public to a reception from 2 until 4 p.m. on Sunday, July 24, to showcase the winners of Artpark's "Fairy House Festival." Castellani Art Museum Director Kate Koperski and CAM Curator of Collections and Exhibitions Michael J. Beam judged the competition.

Assemblyman John Ceretto, R-I-Lewiston, sent a letter to Ohio Gov. John Kasich urging him to veto House Bill 231, which would allow Ohio manufacturers, mining operations, power plants and other businesses to draw up to five million gallons of water a day directly from Lake Erie before facing regulation.

On Saturday, Sept. 17, the Village of Lewiston Recreation Department is sponsoring a community yard sale on the grounds of the Lewiston Red Brick School, 145 N. Fourth St. The recreation staff is offering 10-foot-by-10-foot spaces for $12 for the community to sell unneeded items.

It was a picture perfect night for racing last Friday at Ransomville Speedway. A total of 85 cars filled the pit area set for competition on Destino's Pizza & Pasta, Niagara Frontier Publications, and A-Verdi Storage Container night. The evening also played tribute to the late Harold Rinehart with the annual Poster Contest and Kids Ride event. Another great fan base filled the grandstands enjoying plenty of side-by-side racing action.

Ransomville Manor residents and employees worked hand in hand with local Boy Scout Dylan Gagnon to complete his Eagle Scout Community Service Project. Although Dylan has only worked at Ransomville Manor for a short time, he and his fellow Scouts made a big and lasting impression at the assisted living facility.

It was altogether fitting that Martin DiPietro needed a microphone and speaker for his comments at Saturday's birthday party marking the founding of Fantasy Island in 1961. Without an amplifier, no one would have heard the owner of the amusement park on Grand Island Boulevard above the screams and laughs of patrons on his midway.

This summer, the Youngstown Free Library has teamed up with the Porter Recreation Department to present story hour in Falkner Park each Wednesday at 1 p.m. (through Aug. 24). The NIOGA Library System's traveling storytellers present stories on vehicles and transportation, legends and folktales, and dress up, all with a "One World Many Stories" summer theme on July 20, Aug. 3 and 17.

The Niagara River Greenway Commission is hosting its sixth annual Paddles Up Niagara event on Saturday, July 30, starting at 7 a.m. at Beaver Island State Park. The park will host the festivities in conjunction with the Town of Grand Island, Anchor Marine and WeKanu Paddling Instruction & Instructor Certification.
