Local Scouts receive special award

The Boy Scouts of America, Troop 829, is pleased to announce that two area Scouts have completed the requirements to receive the Eagle Scout rank. Thomas "TJ" Maries and Don "DJ" Eaves are two hard-working 18-year-olds. A ceremony will be held at a special Court of Honor on Sunday, June 26, at 1 p.m.

Ceretto passes legislation to promote local wineries

Assemblyman John Ceretto, R-I-Lewiston, tonight helped pass legislation (A.7622) that will promote local wines and wineries. The bill allows smaller wineries, those that produce less than 150,000 gallons a year, to sell wine at outdoor and indoor events and gatherings by issuing them a temporary permit through the New York State Liquor Authority for a fee of $26.
Porter on the Lake Summerfest to feature live music and fireworks

Niagara Catholic provides free busing from Lockport

Niagara Catholic High School will provide bus service for Lockport-area students this coming school year. Beginning in September, This busing will be provided at no cost to students and their families. It will allow prospective students from the Lockport area to consider Niagara Catholic as a more viable option in selecting their high school.
Grisanti votes for SUNY 2020, job creation in Western New York

The New York State Senate today passed legislation to establish the NY-SUNY 2020 Challenge Grant program, which includes capital funds for investments in economic expansion and job creation at the four SUNY University Centers, as well as a predictable and rational plan for SUNY tuition that will allow students and families to plan for tuition costs.

St. Francis Guild announces scholarship winners

The St. Francis Guild Auxiliary of Mount St. Mary's Hospital has announced the recipients of two $500 scholarships. The guild awards a scholarship to a student from Niagara Catholic High School and to a Mount St. Mary's employee pursuing advanced education. The student at Niagara Catholic receiving the award is Jenna McCune of Niagara Falls. She will be attending Niagara University. The employee award is presented to Adrienne Kasbaum, manager of employee health, who will also be attending Niagara.

Some residents have been objecting to the Wheatfield Town Board's decision to not do mosquito spraying this year, and are questioning Supervisor Bob Cliffe's estimates of the cost of the spraying. (see June 16 Tribune)
Lockport Road water line work due next month

County water line work on Lockport Road in Wheatfield is about to begin. Some preliminary work has already been done, but by July 5, large equipment should be on site to start putting in the large pipe, according to project director Rob Klavoon.
