Assemblyman John Ceretto, R-I-Lewiston, tonight released the following statement regarding the movement of legislation he supports to allow Nik Wallenda to traverse the Niagara Falls River Gorge on a high wire. The bill was unanimously passed by the Assembly Tourism, Parks, Arts and Sports Development committee today and is now one step closer to being passed by the full Assembly.

The New York State Senate today passed a bill protecting protect New York's environmental and economic future by improving management of water supplies and preventing over-consumption by large-scale users. The bill (S.3798), sponsored by Sen. Mark Grisanti, R-Buffalo, ensures water supplies will be protected to meet the needs of New York's residents, industry, agriculture and environment now and into the future.

The Ransomville "Free Concerts in the Country" 2011series kicks off on Thursday, June 30, with an award-winning local high school rock band, Brass Monkeez. The eight-week free concert series takes place at the William J. McLaughlin Free Library Gazebo at 3733 Ransomville Road every Thursday at 7 p.m. from June 30 through Aug. 25 with the July 14 concert changing venues for one date only to Porter on the Lake Park.

The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation has published a booklet that summarizes the War of 1812 on the northern border from Lake Michigan to Lake Champlain. Fort Niagara State Park volunteer Donald Gibbons of Youngstown compiled the booklet. Gibbons has been a longtime volunteer at Fort Niagara State Park and took this project on as a service to the Niagara Region of New York State Parks.

In Easter week of 2005, Dona Cameron found her 10-month-old son Ian in his crib paralyzed from the waist down by a lemon-sized mass near his spinal cord. Dona learned quickly that money raised for the American Cancer Society funded research that would provide doctors with the medicine used to treat her son's tumor, called a neuroblastoma.

Niagara University, in partnership with the City of Niagara Falls and the P2 Collaborative of Western New York, has been awarded an 18-month, $300,000 grant from The John R. Oishei Foundation for the implementation of "Creating a Healthier Niagara Falls: A Neighborhood Empowerment Approach."
