Ceretto blasts majority for regional discrimination

Assemblyman John Ceretto, R-I-Lewiston, blasted the Assembly Majority on Monday for denying an up or down vote by the entire Assembly on legislation that would return state lands currently receiving property tax exemptions back to Niagara County's tax rolls. The bill, which was delivered a setback in the Rules Committee, which is controlled by New York City Assembly members, was rejected along party lines.

"You Fuse, You Lose" - "101 Ways to Leave a Game Show" kicks off its wild series premiere Tuesday, June 21 (9 p.m., ET). The stakes are high as players match wits in a series of multiple choice questions, with one person being eliminated every round. The eight contestants must avoid giving a wrong answer that could get them eliminated from the show by either being strapped down to the wing of a soaring bi-plane, dropped off the side of a speeding 18-wheeler, flipped upside down in an exploding car, or launched sky-high by a crate of dynamite. Only the final four contestants who survive will have a showdown -- atop a 10-story drop from "The Tower" -- for a chance at taking home the $50,000 prize.

During last night's series debut of Oxygen's "The Glee Project," the 12 contenders performed an energetic rendition of Katy Perry's mega-hit "Firework." Under the tutelage of "Glee" guest mentor Darren Criss ("Glee's" Blaine), the group was coached on the theme of individuality and how to stand out while being true to your personality. At the conclusion of the premiere episode, "Glee" hopeful Bryce Ross-Johnson (22) of Westlake Village, Calif., was the first contender to be eliminated. He was tasked with performing Bruno Mars' "Just the Way You Are" for "Glee" creator Ryan Murphy as a last chance -- but the show must go on! The remaining 11 contenders will face their next "Glee"-inspired challenge on Sunday, June 19, at 9 p.m. ET/PT, only on Oxygen.
TNT acquires hit crime drama 'Castle'

In its latest high-profile acquisition, TNT has secured the exclusive off-network cable rights to the hit series, "Castle" from Disney-ABC Domestic Television. "Castle," which just completed its third highly rated season on ABC, is a crime drama starring Nathan Fillion ("Firefly," "Buffy the Vampire Slayer") and Stana Katic ("Quantum of Solace," TNT's "The Librarian: Curse of the Judas Chalice"). "Castle" (seasons 1 and 2) will begin airing on TNT in summer 2012. As part of TNT's "TV Everywhere" rollout, "Castle" will also be available for online viewing through mobile phones, tablets, computers and other devices.

Mount St. Mary's sports medicine offers sports training for high school athletes

The Sports Medicine Department of Mount St. Mary's Hospital will offer a series of basic conditioning programs for high school age students starting July 6. Led by certified athletic trainers Jason Hopkins, ATC, and Brian Healy, ATC, the program will focus on endurance, speed, agility and injury prevention to assist athletes in grades 9-12 prepare for the fall 2011 season. The programs will be held on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

With only about a week of scheduled session left for 2011, Assemblyman John Ceretto, R-I-Lewiston, is urging the Assembly to pass the Senate version of Laura Cummings' Law. The legislation would help prevent child and adult abuse by expanding the authority of county protective service workers to enable full investigations into allegations of abuse. Under the Senate's version, the bill makes preventing access to a home were abuse is suspected a crime.
