The Town of Porter Historical Society reports its May monthly meeting will feature Ed Evans presenting a program on the Hamlin Beach (N.Y.) Prisoner of War Camp. Evans is a member of the Hamlin Conservation Board and is actively involved with the preservation of the former CCC and POW camp at Hamlin Beach State Park.

Porter OKs spending items, nixes raise proposal

Porter Town Board members OK'd two significant spending expenditures and rejected a third, among its regular meeting items Monday at Town Hall. Included was a funds transfer approval towards the purchase of a new truck for the town Highway Department, approval of a contract for Town Hall HVAC updating, and the board opting to reject a request from Supervisor Mert Wiepert to adjust the entry-level salaries of summer youth recreation workers.

"In Gayle We Trust," starring Elisa Donovan ("Clueless") in the title role, is sponsored by American Family Insurance and was launched in September 2009.
