Ceretto votes to enact property tax cap

Assemblyman John Ceretto, R-I-Lewiston, voted on Monday in favor of an amendment that would bring property tax cap legislation, passed earlier this year by the State Senate, to the Assembly floor for an up or down vote. The bill, which Ceretto supported, would cap property tax increases at 2 percent.
Lew-Port announces universal pre-kindergarten registration

The Lewiston-Porter Central School District and YMCA Buffalo Niagara are conducting their annual universal pre-kindergarten application process for students who will be 4 years old on or before Dec. 1, and who are not eligible for kindergarten. There is no charge to enroll a child in this program.

The St. Vincent de Paul Parish spring rummage sale, sponsored by the Rosary Altar Society of St. Vincent de Paul Parish, will take place from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday, April 16, at the Catholic Academy Elementary Site (formerly Prince of Peace School), 1055 N. More than 200 guests - including several from Lewiston - gathered to meet and hear Fox News Channel anchor Bill O'Reilly speak at the It Happened to Alexa Foundation event on March 25 at the Mar-a-Lago Club in Palm Beach, Fla. O'Reilly, who was introduced by Donald Trump, served as keynote speaker for the third annual "Justice is Served" benefit and entertained the crowd with his political banter, as well as expressing his support for the work being done by the It Happened to Alexa Foundation.

The board of directors of HART Interfaith Inc. announces the appointment of Susan McBee as program manager. A lifelong resident of Lewiston, McBee holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Allegheny College and an M.B.A. from Canisius College. She was formerly employed at Occidental Chemical Co. and the Lewiston-Porter School District.

Old Fort Niagara commemorates Patriots' Day

On April 16 and 17, Old Fort Niagara will host Patriots' Day Weekend, a special event that commemorates the beginning of the American Revolution 236 years ago. On hand will be re-enactors representing British soldiers and American militia that squared off at the battles of Lexington and Concord on April 19, 1775.

Old Fort Niagara seeks tour guides

Old Fort Niagara is gearing up for another busy tour season and is seeking people interested in history to serve as tour guides for the spring and summer. Tours this year will focus on the fort's history during the War of 1812, the American Revolution and the French and Indian War. Although the site is open year round, the fort's busiest season is May through October. Hundreds of school classes visit during May and June.

Residents, officials debate new parking proposal

At Monday's Village of Lewiston work session, trustees continued to analyze parking patterns and traffic flow associated with Artpark's "Tuesday in the Park" concert series. A motion was presented to limit parking on South Fourth Street - just outside of the performing arts venue's main entrance - and on ancillary streets. It would also prohibit pocket pay lots on private property.
International flights added to NFIA
