Just when you think you see a glimmer of hope toward the beginning of spring, you awake to frigid temperatures and more snow to brush off your car. Although we, as Western New Yorkers, are plagued with often unbearably long winters, every year at this time numerous brave members of the community put their dreary thoughts of winter behind them.

Assemblyman John Ceretto, R-Lewiston, today announced that legislation he sponsored (A.3093B) was signed into law by Gov. Andrew Cuomo this afternoon. The law will save villages in Western New York money by exempting them from costly new voting machine requirements by allowing villages throughout the state to use lever voting machines for their elections.

The measure, which was also passed in the State Senate and now awaits action by the governor, would allow villages throughout the state to use lever voting machines for their elections, an election law exemption only previously granted to school districts.

The Women of the Moose on behalf of the Grand Island Moose Lodge No. 180 recently purchased a "brick" for The Miracle League of Grand Island and Western New York, and have issued a challenge to other community groups to raise money for the Miracle League by hosting some kind of fundraiser.
