The Blues Society of Western New York, one of the largest blues societies in the world with more than 700 members, will lend its voices and musical talent to the compilation CD "Jammin' for a Cure." All proceeds will benefit breast cancer research. Adrienne Thompson, a breast cancer survivor and a Blues Society board member-at-large, is spearheading the CD, which features 15 local bands with all of their own original music.

Artpark's week-long children's camps will feature three sessions of Art Camp and one special week of Theater Camp in association with Artpark's 2010 Broadway Musical, and introduces a week of Rock Camp for aspiring rock stars.

The Niagara University College of Education's Institute of Applied Learning will be holding two youth camps this summer for students interested in having fun while exploring science, technology, engineering, and math, or STEM. The camps will be held on the Niagara University campus, and will run from Aug. 2-5 and 16-19.

The Lake Ontario Ordnance Works Restoration Advisory Board invites area residents to attend the first of its planned series of community presentations on the LOOW Site Wednesday night. To be held at the Lewiston-Porter High School auditorium from 7 to 9:30 p.m., the program, "LOOW Site Radioactive Storage: The Experts Speak," will feature two presentations and a question and answer period on the radiological issues existing in certain areas of the LOOW Site.

On Thursday, the Board of Trustees backed away from a Lewiston Lions Club proposal to collect charitable contributions inside of Artpark during the "Tuesday in the Park" concert series. Instead, trustees approved a plan wherein volunteers representing Heart, Love and Soul and Community Missions can solicit patrons outside of the performing arts venue's South Fourth Street entrance.
