Tops raises over $321,000 in 30th year helping JDRF find a cure for Type 1 diabetes

Tops Friendly Markets once again partnered with JDRF as it embarked on a 53rd year to find a cure for Type 1 diabetes (T1D). The campaign, which began Sunday, March 5, and ran through Saturday, March 25, raised $321,000. This was the 30th year Tops has helped run the JDRF campaign at its stores.

Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announced 29-year-old Kente Q. Bell of Buffalo pleaded guilty this afternoon before Erie County Court Judge Kenneth Case to three counts of attempted murder in the second degree (class "B" violent felonies), and one count of criminal possession of a weapon of second degree (class "C" violent felony). The defendant pleaded guilty to the charges in full satisfaction of the indictment against him.

Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announced a jury has found 37-year-old William T. Bergeron of Cheektowaga guilty of the highest count in the indictment against him. Jurors rendered their decision this afternoon after less than an hour of deliberation following a four-day trial that began last week. Bergeron was found guilty of the following offenses:

Teens charged for involvement in attack

On the afternoon of Friday, April 7, Niagara Falls Police detectives charged two juveniles for their involvement in an attack that was video recorded and distributed on social media. The two male suspects, ages 15 and 16, were both charged with assault in the third degree and, pursuant to state law, were issued appearance tickets to report to Niagara County Probation Department.

In 2008, Grand Island voters approved the establishment of a capital reserve fund for the Grand Island School District. That fund was set to expire in 15 years, which is 2023. Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announced 30-year-old Dino A. Bruscia of Buffalo pleaded guilty this morning before State Supreme Court Justice M. William Boller to one count of arson in the third degree (class "C" felony). The defendant pleaded guilty to the only charge in the indictment against him ahead of a jury trial that was scheduled to begin next week.
