Gov. Kathy Hochul on Wednesday issued a proclamation designating December as STOP-DWI Month, and announced a series of targeted initiatives to prevent impaired driving across the state. Throughout December, the Governor's Traffic Safety Committee will launch a new anti-drinking and driving public service announcement. GTSC will also launch a $1 million "Don't Drive High" public awareness campaign, which will use funding from the New York State Office of Cannabis Management.

Critically acclaimed Vermont singer and songwriter Noah Kahan revealed new tour dates for summer 2023 as a continuation of his sold-out "Stick Season Tour" produced by Live Nation. Kahan will perform at the Artpark Amphitheater at 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 26, 2023, with special guest Joy Oladokun. This concert is presented by Live Nation.

She also updated New Yorkers on winter preparedness efforts, urging individuals to "take proven prevention measures to protect against respiratory syncytial virus, flu, and COVID-19, and reduce the patient burden on local hospitals."

At 3:13 a.m. Wednesday, Niagara County Sheriff's Office Deputy F. Bork attempted to stop a suspicious vehicle in the area of Woodland Avenue and Saint Joseph Road in the Town of Niagara. NCSO said, "The operator refused to comply and a vehicle pursuit ensued throughout the Town of Niagara. Ultimately, in the area of Sadlo Drive and Bellreng Drive, the two occupants fled from the vehicle on foot into the neighborhood.

Congressman Brian Higgins announced a federal grant totaling $4.5 million awarded to the City of Buffalo by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) in partnership with the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF). Awarded through the National Coastal Resilience Fund, the grant will support shoreline resiliency and improve public waterfront access at Ralph C. Wilson Jr. Centennial Park.

Niagara Falls firefighters delivered bags of toys to the Niagara County Courthouse rotunda right before the meeting of the County Legislature on Tuesday night. This was in support of the Christmas giving tree, where collections support Casey House Shelter, Twin Cities Outreach and the Salvation Army.

Each year, the Niagara Falls Fire Department hosts a large fundraiser to benefit kids in the community by providing Christmas toys to those in need. Organizers said they hope to raise $90,000 now in year 94.

Niagara County Clerk Joseph A. Jastrzemski on Tuesday said the federal Department of Homeland Security is delaying enforcement of REAL ID requirements by 24 months, from May 3, 2023, to May 7, 2025. At that time, one will need a REAL ID to board any domestic flights, enter a military base and access certain federal facilities.

Gov. Kathy Hochul on Tuesday signed legislation to crack down on unwanted telemarketing calls. Legislation S.8450-B/A.8319-C requires telemarketers to give customers the option to be added to the company's do-not-call list at the outset of certain telemarketing calls. The new legislation is designed to help safeguard New Yorkers from continuous unwanted calls.

Gov. Kathy Hochul has signed legislation to protect New Yorkers' right to vote and improve the voting process. Legislation (S.284C/A.642C) requires the counting and canvassing of affidavit ballots cast by eligible voters who appear at the wrong polling place, as long as they are voting in the correct county and assembly district.

The New York State Canal Corp. today announced it will be surveying water retaining embankments and select dam structures along the canal system beginning the week of Dec. 5. The survey work will be completed through drone flights to collect terrain data and photographs of the canal embankments and infrastructure.
