Amidst a snowstorm and advisory alerts in Niagara Falls and throughout Western New York, Niagara Falls National Heritage Area had a "We are the Community'' breakfast on Saturday, celebrating four completed murals on Main Street. In addition, the community's accomplishments were memorialized through a "We are the Community'' photo, bringing attention to their efforts in an area needing revitalization.

Gov. Kathy Hochul on Monday announced President Joe Biden approved her request for an emergency declaration for Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Erie, Genesee, Jefferson, Lewis, Niagara, Oneida, Oswego, St. Lawrence and Wyoming counties, following the historic winter storm that buried some of New York's upstate communities with nearly 7 feet of snow this past week.

Featured for the fifth annual Niagara PAL "Santa Dash 5K" on Saturday, Dec. 10, at the Sheraton Niagara Falls, will be the holiday/winter-themed costume contest for all runners. Cash awards will be given for the best costumes. Runner awards will be given for the top three finishers in the respective categories, with long-sleeved T-shirts presented to the first 150 runners.

The Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation Snowmobile Bureau reminds snowmobilers to exercise caution in this weekend's snowstorm. Despite the large snowfalls in the Tug Hill and in Western New York, snowmobile trails are not open at this time. For public safety reasons, grooming generally may not begin until the closure of big game hunting season. Snowmobilers should exercise restraint when operating snowmobiles before the start of the season.

Congressman Brian Higgins hailed action by the U.S. Pension Benefit Guaranty Corp. (PBGC) to approve $963.4 million in special financial assistance to the New York State Teamsters Conference Plan. The move will cover 33,643 New York Teamster workers, including approximately 5,000 in Western New York, who saw their pension benefits cut by up to 29% going back to 2017.

New York Farm Bureau's 2022 market basket survey shows the price of a traditional Thanksgiving dinner saw a double-digit price jump from last year's meal.
