The state Department of Labor's (DOL) failure to replace its long-troubled unemployment insurance (UI) system and ad hoc workarounds to compensate for the old system weakened oversight and ultimately contributed to an estimated billions of dollars in improper payments during the COVID-19 pandemic, according to an audit released today by State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli.

Gov. Kathy Hochul announced more than $21.4 million has been awarded to help Ukrainians, who have fled their country as a result of Russia's military invasion, to temporarily resettle in New York. The funding will be utilized by 17 refugee services providers around the state to assist displaced Ukrainians now living in New York.

ABC News Digital debuts "Buffalo: Healing From Hate," a series that chronicles the aftermath of the horrific mass shooting at the Tops supermarket in Buffalo, which claimed the lives of 10 people. The project tells the story of the Buffalo community's path to recovery since the racially motivated attack on May 14. Just after 12:30 on the afternoon of Thursday, Nov. 10, Niagara Falls Police responded to a house in the 2700 block of Falls Street for a report of a person shot. Officers located a 21-year-old female victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was treated on the scene by the Niagara Falls Fire Department and AMR, and was transported to ECMC where she is listed in serious condition.
