Empire State Development announces Americarb to expand manufacturing operations in Niagara County

Empire State Development announced that Americarb Inc., a leading global producer of carbon and graphite advanced materials, plans to add 45 jobs and invest $6 million in its Niagara Falls plant. The investment will be used to purchase and install new machinery and equipment utilized in the manufacturing of high-temp composite material for the production of clean hydrogen, and in aerospace and defense applications.

NIH awards major grant to UB to boost newborn screening accuracy

The National Institutes of Health has awarded a University at Buffalo researcher an extremely competitive grant known as an R01 grant to lead an international effort to dramatically improve the accuracy of newborn screening for three rare, often fatal, genetic diseases. The five-year, $3.8 million grant is funded by the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development of the NIH.

The next meeting of the Buffalo and Erie County Greenway Fund Standing Committee will be 1:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 18, at the Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo, 726 Exchange St. The meeting agenda includes establishment of the 2023 grant schedule for applicants who are seeking Greenway project funding in the current round of requests. It is open to the public.
NYS: Expanded assistance for income-eligible Medicare beneficiaries

Gov. Kathy Hochul announced more New Yorkers will be eligible for additional financial assistance in 2023 through the newly expanded Medicare savings program. Adopted through the fiscal year 2023 state budget, the increased income-eligibility limits will help older adults and individuals with disabilities pay for health care costs, which is estimated to save them an average of $7,000 annually.

Chimera has served as an Erie County legislator (3rd District) since July 2019, serving the communities of Tonawanda and Kenmore, along with the Black Rock, Riverside and University Heights areas of the City of Buffalo.

The Town of Porter announced will hold a public hearing on its $5,684,540 tentative budget for 2023 at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 7, at Town Hall. By the numbers, the plan reflects a modest drop in overall spending from the town's adopted 2022 budget of $5,770,583.42, according to town bookkeeper Kim Boyer.
