Trina Burruss named next president & CEO of United Way of Buffalo & Erie County

The board of directors of United Way of Buffalo & Erie County recently announced Trina Burruss will be United Way of Buffalo & Erie County's next president and CEO. Burruss, who currently serves as the organization's chief operating officer, will begin her tenure upon current President and CEO Michael Weiner's retirement at the end of the year.

Tops Markets raises $288,000+ for Children's Miracle Network campaign

Tops Friendly Markets has once again raised much-needed funds for Children's Miracle Network Hospitals (CMNH). The fundraising campaign which officially kicked off Sunday, June 20, at all participating Tops Friendly Markets locations, ran through Saturday, July 3. In total Tops helped raise $288,419,000.
Niagara Area Foundation accepting grant applications through Oct. 14

DiNapoli: Local sales tax collections in August increase by nearly 13% over last year

Local sales tax collections in New York state increased by 12.6% statewide in August compared to the same month in 2021, according to a recent analysis released by Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli. Statewide local collections totaled $1.7 billion, up nearly $192 million from the same time last year.

Riser House/Columbia Nashville/Sony Music Nashville artist Mitchell Tenpenny released his new, 20-track album, "This Is The Heavy," on Friday. Mitchell co-wrote every song on the record with some of Nashville's finest, including Thomas Archer, Brad Clawson, Rodney Clawson, Devin Dawson, Chris DeStefano, Seth Ennis, Kyle Fishman, Jesse Frasure, Ashley Gorley, Josh Kear and Laura Veltz. AAA: Regional gas prices all drop below $4 mark

New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Commissioner Basil Seggos announced the start of DEC's annual Arbor Day poster contest. Each year, DEC's urban and community forestry program coordinates the contest to promote the value of trees in the environment and New Yorkers' lives. The winner of the contest will have their photo or artwork reproduced as the 2023 Arbor Day poster to commemorate the holiday.
UB department of music, BPO collaborate to commemorate Lukas Foss

Lukas Foss (1922-2009) was a composer, conductor, pianist and visionary whose legendary contributions to the Buffalo arts scene were transformative. From 1963-70, Foss served as the music director of the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra (BPO), championing the works of living composers and 20th century music. In 1964, he co-founded and served as co-director of the Center for Creative and Performing Arts at the University at Buffalo, where he ushered in innovative works and performances for more than two decades.
