Congressman Brian Higgins announced a federal grant totaling $500,000 awarded to the Erie County Department of Health. Funded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and awarded through the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), the grant will provide training for first responders on Narcan use and overdose recognition.

NYS: $4 million to increase mental health workforce diversity

Gov. Kathy Hochul announced $4 million in federal funding to support underrepresented students entering or enrolled in mental health degree programs at State University of New York or City University of New York campuses. Through a partnership with the New York State Office of Mental Health, SUNY and CUNY will each be provided $2 million to support tuition assistance, paid internships, and direct stipends for minority and multilingual students.

Gov. Kathy Hochul on Thursday announced Rosina Food Products Inc. has completed a $73.2 million expansion, adding a facility in West Seneca. The new, multimillion-dollar plant will produce a variety of meat products for the fast-growing food manufacturer, and will create 40 new jobs and retain 500 jobs.

The Buffalo Sewer Authority is continuing to repair a sewer line that collapsed earlier this week beneath Genesee Street in downtown Buffalo. Due to that work, Genesee Street remains closed between Washington and East Huron streets, and East Huron Street is closed between Main and Washington streets. Motorists are asked to use West Mohawk Street as a detour around the impacted area.
