The nation's largest two-day food festival, Taste of Buffalo presented by Tops, returns to downtown Buffalo Saturday, July 9 (11 a.m. to 9 p.m.), and Sunday, July 10 (11 a.m. to 7 p.m.). Patrons can enjoy culinary delights from 40 restaurants and food trucks, five New York state wineries, live music and more along Delaware Avenue, starting at Chippewa Street and continuing into Niagara Square.

Congressman Brian Higgins announced a federal grant totaling $645,259 awarded to The Service Collaborative of Western New York. Funded by the American Rescue Plan and fiscal year 2022 appropriations, the AmeriCorps grant will provide support for the AmeriCorps Builds Lives through Education (ABLE) Early Childhood Program, which helps close education gaps among preschool students in Western New York.

"Passion and Patronage Gifts from the Gerald Mead Collection" opens at the Castellani Art Museum on Friday, July 1, and is on view until Sunday, Dec. 18. This exhibition features noted Buffalo art collector Dr. Gerald C. Mead Jr.'s gifted artworks to the museum (since 1997), as well as his promised bequest gift of 54 works by 43 artists.

During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, in June 2020, Bonnie Nevans and Crystal Still came up with an idea to help the community feel a sense of togetherness. That idea was a mural created by anyone interested in participating. Each volunteer was given a packet of materials, with directions on how to create a small portion of the mural. The individual pieces looked very abstract, and neither Nevans nor Still told any of the participants what the entire piece would look like.

Local sales tax collections in New York state increased by 16.7% in May compared to the same month in 2021, according to an analysis released by State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli. Overall, local collections totaled $1.7 billion, up $242 million from May of last year.

Assemblyman Angelo Morinello is sponsoring a free car seat safety check at the Niagara SPCA from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, June 23. The Niagara County Sheriff's Office will be on site inspecting car seats to help ensure child safety. There will be a variety of food, including hot dogs, baked goods and ice cream available for sale. The Niagara County SPCA also will have meet-and-greet pet adoptions.
