Hochul: Minority and women-owned business enterprise utilization rate leads nation at 30.51%

Gov. Kathy Hochul announced New York state has surpassed its official utilization rate goal for minority-and women-owned business enterprises (MWBEs) on state contracts with 30.51% - the highest in the country - for the 2020-21 fiscal year. Additionally, more than $3 billion in state contracts were awarded to MWBE firms during the same time period, with more than $21 billion in state contracts awarded since 2011.

In celebration of the holidays and to show appreciation to many of Niagara Falls' finest for all they do to keep the community safe - especially during the pandemic - AT&T purchased lunch for 100 police officers and other first responders working out of Niagara Falls Police Department's headquarters on Wednesday. AT&T hired Niagara County's own Dirty Bird Chicken N' Waffles food truck to provide the meals in front of the police department.
Poloncarz commits $1.3 million in additional funding for Erie County health care careers program

Niagara County Department of Health releases update to quarantine requirements

National Grid restores power to 97% of upstate New York customers impacted by damaging windstorm

National Grid crews have restored power to 212,000, or 97%, of the nearly 221,000 upstate New York customers impacted by the severe windstorm that caused significant and widespread damage across the region over the weekend. The storm brought gusts of up to 80 mph in some regions and left behind hundreds of broken utility poles, damaged transformers, toppled trees, tree limbs and downed wires.

The Greater Hudson Heritage Network (GHHN) is awarding a $4,500 conservation treatment grant to the Castellani Art Museum of Niagara University to conserve a Joachim Ferdinand Richardt painting of the Niagara River from the museum's permanent collection. The artwork has never been publicly displayed, because of its poor condition when first acquired.

Congressman Brian Higgins announced the passage of H.R. 1667, the Dr. Lorna Breen Health Care Provider Protection Act. Gov. Kathy Hochul recently signed a package of legislation to protect consumers from exploitative credit and gift card practices in New York. Legislation S.133-B/A.5698-B protects credit card holders by creating a grace period for the use of reward points after the closing of an account. Legislation S.3467-B/A.4629-C prohibits fees and expiration dates on gift cards and gift certificates.

National Grid's upstate New York field force of more than 3,400 workers has restored power to nearly 180,000 of the approximately 215,000 customers impacted by the powerful windstorm that swept across the region Saturday through Sunday morning.
