The country of focus will be India as it contains a significant number of impoverished areas. One of Niagara University's students and close friends is from there and he told a story of when he encountered poverty. During the summer, he was sitting outside of his uncle's house and he could sense that there was something very foul heading towards him which was right around the corner.

Empty Center Street parcel might not be vacant much longer

The Village of Lewiston Planning Commission on Monday granted preliminary site plan approval for what was described as a national urgent care company to erect and operate a structure at 860 Center St. The parcel has been vacant since April 2012, when the building that now houses the Niagara River Region Chamber of Commerce office was transported from the site and moved across the street to Academy Park.

Whitney not in favor of mask mandate

As town supervisor of the Town of Grand Island, I cannot place my support behind the mandatory mask mandate issued by Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz. Personally, I wear a mask where required and support vaccinations. However, I feel that the mandate will damage our businesses by forcing our residents to cross the bridge to Niagara County, where the mandate doesn't exist.

Office of Mental Health receives grant to expand access to fresh healthy produce to people with mental illness

The state Office of Mental Health (OMH) has received a $200,000 award to help people with mental illness gain access to healthy, fresh produce. The grant, from the state Health Foundation, will be used to expand the FreshConnect Checks program and bring mobile farmers markets to congregate housing sites for residents with serious mental illness. OMH will also develop a curriculum for residents focused on purchasing, preparing, and consuming healthy foods.
