Deposits for Food makes holiday donations to local pantries

Deposits for Food (D4F) recently made its annual holiday donations to four Niagara County food pantries - just in time for the holidays. Checks totaling $3,000 were presented to Community Missions, and Heart, Love & Soul of Niagara Falls on Wednesday by D4F founder Angelo Sarkees. Checks were previously given to Wilson Food Pantry and Care-N-Share Pantry of Ransomville.

Gov. Kathy Hochul announced the selection of final cleanup plans for the estimated $69 million remediation of the former Bethlehem Steel site in Lackawanna. The announcement builds on the progress already underway at the site, and construction to advance the cleanup plan is expected to begin next year. In addition to addressing sitewide contamination, the cleanup will provide public access to Lake Erie for the first time in more than 100 years.

Gov. Kathy Hochul announced a new vaccine incentive to bolster vaccination rates among New Yorkers who enjoy the great outdoors. Beginning Dec. 1 through the end of the year, anyone who receives their first vaccine dose will have the opportunity to enter the "Take Your Shot for an Outdoor Adventure: sweepstakes and a random drawing to win special prize packages tailored to anglers, hunters and other outdoor enthusiasts.

A national study led by emergency medicine physicians at the University at Buffalo has found that patients with mild to moderate COVID-19 who are treated with an inhaled steroid are significantly less likely to require emergency department care or hospitalization due to COVID-19 than those treated with placebo.
