Travel advisory: Lane closures expected on Niagara Falls Boulevard in North Tonawanda

The New York State Department of Transportation advised motorists to expect lane closures on U.S. Route 62 (Niagara Falls Boulevard) at State Route 425 (Erie Avenue and Shawnee Road) in the City of North Tonawanda, beginning at 8 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 10. The closures are necessary to facilitate railroad crossing repair work by CSX and are expected to last one day, weather permitting.

The project, her team said, will renovate the long-abandoned Terminal B warehouse into an events center that utilizes existing parking and reclaims seven acres of contaminated property to open additional public access with scenic new lake views.

Hochul signs legislation to ensure used vehicles are sold with functioning airbags

Gov. Kathy Hochul on Monday signed legislation that prohibits used car dealers from selling vehicles at retail without a functioning airbag. Her team said, "This bill is titled 'Anthony Amoros' Law' after a young man from Rockland who died in a car crash in a car that, unbeknownst to him, was sold to him without airbags. Under this legislation, certificates given to vehicle buyers must certify that the vehicle is equipped with an airbag, as well as a readiness indicator light that indicates the airbag is functioning."

Grand Island man pleads guilty to felony animal cruelty charge for fatally injuring dog

Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announced 43-year-old Brian N. Cline of Grand Island pleaded guilty on Friday afternoon before Erie County Court Judge Susan Eagan to one count of aggravated cruelty to animals (a Class "E" felony).
