43North announces 2021 startup competition finalists

Gov. Kathy Hochul announced the 19 finalists for the 43North seventh annual startup competition. The finalists will be coming to Buffalo later this month to pitch for one of eight investments totaling $5 million, including a top prize of $1 million.

Gov. Kathy Hochul on Monday signed legislation (S.64/A.1524) establishing a statewide restaurant meals program as part of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP. The legislation mandates the New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance to apply for USDA approval to authorize the program, which would allow homeless, elderly and disabled SNAP recipients to use their benefits for prepared or hot food from participating restaurants

Shortly before 1 a.m. on Oct. 2, Niagara Falls Police Department responded to 1509 18th St., for a report of a man shot. Upon arrival, officers located a 58-year-old male resident of Niagara Falls suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
