Two weekends ago, a handful of volunteers joined the crews from Painters Plus to help out this year's winner of Project H.O.P.E. (Helping Others Paint Exteriors), an annual citywide contest that offers a free exterior home paint job to homeowners in need. Painter's Plus owner Jesse Gooch said this year's Project H.O.P.E., now in its 11th year, was perhaps its most unique yet.

In coordination with Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Erie County cancer services program (CSP) is urging women to talk to their health care providers about scheduling their mammograms. The CSP helps uninsured and underinsured women get free mammograms.

Kathy Hochul on Thursday announced more than $373 million in home heating aid is becoming available for low- and middle-income New Yorkers who need assistance keeping their homes warm during the upcoming winter season. Applications open Friday, Oct. 1, for the Home Energy Assistance Program, also known as HEAP.

Gov. Kathy Hochul on Thursday announced New York state has secured $20 million in federal funding through the Substance Abuse Prevention and Treatment Block Grant program to assist addiction service providers with loss of revenue and operating expenses incurred as a result of the COVID 19 pandemic.

New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Commissioner Basil Seggos on Thursday announced the execution of an Order on Consent with Cascades Containerboard Packaging Inc. in Niagara Falls that includes a $375,000 penalty and requires Cascades to undertake improvements to protect the community's health and quality of life.

With more than 30 years of experience devoted to promoting health equity and social justice, both in the U.S. and abroad, Bassett's career has spanned academia, government, and not-for-profit work. The Erie County Department of Social Services announced applications for Home Energy Assistance Program regular benefits will be accepted beginning Friday, Oct. 1, approximately one month earlier than usual. This year, in light of continuing coronavirus-related concerns related to public gatherings, ECDSS is strongly encouraging applicants to apply online or to utilize other remote channels to apply. As in previous years, interested applicants are encouraged to apply sooner rather than later.

Kathy Hochul on Tuesday announced construction is underway on School 75 Apartments, a $29 million development on Buffalo's East Side that will provide 47 affordable homes in a repurposed former public school and an additional 18 new single-family homes. Thirty-three of the apartments will be reserved for homeless veterans and military service-disabled individuals.

Empire State Development, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and Buffalo Niagara Waterkeeper on Tuesday celebrated the grand opening of the $2 million renovated Buffalo Blueway site, DEC's Buffalo River - Ohio Street fishing access site. The ESD-funded project, completed by BNW, adds to the network of public access points along the city's waterways as part of the Buffalo Blueway project, a regional effort to improve and enhance waterfront access and opportunities for recreation.

Preparations for Erie County's annual Fall Fest celebration are well underway as the county department of Parks, Recreation and Forestry prepares to welcome visitors to Como Lake Park in Lancaster from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. this Saturday, Oct. 2, for the free seasonal event.
