11th annual Project H.O.P.E. gives Wheatfield family, community much-needed hand

Two weekends ago, a handful of volunteers joined the crews from Painters Plus to help out this year's winner of Project H.O.P.E. (Helping Others Paint Exteriors), an annual citywide contest that offers a free exterior home paint job to homeowners in need. Painter's Plus owner Jesse Gooch said this year's Project H.O.P.E., now in its 11th year, was perhaps its most unique yet.

In coordination with Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Erie County cancer services program (CSP) is urging women to talk to their health care providers about scheduling their mammograms. The CSP helps uninsured and underinsured women get free mammograms.
$373 million for home heating aid to assist New Yorkers during cold weather months

Gov. Kathy Hochul on Thursday announced more than $373 million in home heating aid is becoming available for low- and middle-income New Yorkers who need assistance keeping their homes warm during the upcoming winter season. Applications open Friday, Oct. 1, for the Home Energy Assistance Program, also known as HEAP.
$20 million in stabilization funding to support addiction service providers in NYS

Gov. Kathy Hochul on Thursday announced New York state has secured $20 million in federal funding through the Substance Abuse Prevention and Treatment Block Grant program to assist addiction service providers with loss of revenue and operating expenses incurred as a result of the COVID 19 pandemic.

Home haunt in North Tonawanda opens

The Erie County Department of Social Services announced applications for Home Energy Assistance Program regular benefits will be accepted beginning Friday, Oct. 1, approximately one month earlier than usual. This year, in light of continuing coronavirus-related concerns related to public gatherings, ECDSS is strongly encouraging applicants to apply online or to utilize other remote channels to apply. As in previous years, interested applicants are encouraged to apply sooner rather than later.
