Gooch asks Hochul to intervene on Shawnee Road speed limit

Niagara County Legislator Jesse Gooch on Thursday sent a letter to Gov. Kathy Hochul asking her to intervene in efforts to lower the speed limit on Shawnee Road in the Town of Wheatfield. Residents have been seeking a speed limit reduction for years, but the state Department of Transportation has refused the request.

Earlier this week, the Erie County Health Department and Pegula Sports Entertainment - owner of the Buffalo Bills and Buffalo Sabres - announced new COVID-19 vaccine mandates would be in effect for fans attending football games at Highmark Stadium and hockey games at KeyBank Center. All fans will be required to show proof of vaccination - no test-out option will be available.

$200 million in additional food assistance for New Yorkers in September

Gov. Kathy Hochul on Thursday announced all New Yorkers enrolled in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, will receive the maximum allowable level of food benefits for September. Hochul also directed the state Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance, which administers SNAP in New York, to continue working with the federal government to ensure these supplemental benefits will reach households in need throughout the fall.
Sunnking donates more than $13,000 to Camp Good Days during National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month

On Thursday, local electronics recycler Sunnking presented a $13,357 check to Camp Good Days and Special Times, a local nonprofit organization helping children and families dealing with cancer. The funds were raised as a part of Sunnking's 11th annual "e-Scrap for Camp" fundraiser. The company saw 353 businesses participate in the electronics recycling donation drive.

AAA: Car crashes No. 1 safety issue for children, yet only 1 in 5 parents has car seat checked
