Governor Kathy Hochul announced the commissioner of health designated COVID-19 "a highly contagious communicable disease that presents a serious risk of harm to the public health" under New York state's HERO Act, which requires all employers to implement workplace safety plans in the event of an airborne infectious disease, helping to prevent workplace infections.
'Moving Day Buffalo, A Walk for Parkinson's' raises funds & awareness for Parkinson's disease

The Parkinson's Foundation will host its annual "Moving Day Buffalo, A Walk for Parkinson's" at the Eastern Hills Mall on Saturday, Sept. 18. The event begins at 9 a.m. Between 300 and 500 people are expected to engage in movement demonstrations, Parkinson's-related exhibits and a half-mile walk to beat Parkinson's disease. Funds raised through "Moving Day" will support research and programs to improve the lives of people with Parkinson's disease and their families.

Gov. Kathy Hochul recently signed into law a new moratorium on COVID-19-related residential and commercial evictions for New York state, which is in effect until Jan. 15, 2022. Under the new law, all protections of the Tenant Safe Harbor Act for residential tenants who are suffering financial hardship as a result of the pandemic will remain in place, along with new protections on commercial evictions.
Olcott Beach closed for season due to public safety concerns

Wheatfield adopts solar law changes; pledges support for Hunt Street bridge reopening

On Monday, the Town of Wheatfield voted to adopt a number of revisions to its solar law, largely pertaining to utility-scale solar farms and energy systems. The amendments are aimed at addressing public concerns surrounding such facilities that were raised after a 6.3-megawatt project by Borrego Solar Systems at 2469 Lockport Road was approved and completed following the initial solar law's passing in 2017. The move comes as a town-imposed six month moratorium on new solar projects expired this month.
