The Erie County Department of Health on Tuesday provided an update on COVID-19 data. For the week ending Aug. 21, ECDOH received reports for 983 new COVID-19 cases among Erie County residents. With a 20% increase from the previous week's total of 811, a steady increase in new COVID-19 cases continues.

Six Flags Darien Lake has announced an all-new holiday tradition, the "Magic of Lights" drive-thru experience. The theme park will be all decked out and shining bright this holiday season from Nov. 18 through Jan. 2, 2022. This 1.25-mile route winds guests through the park and campground from the comfort and warmth of their own cars. The site will be overflowing with lighting displays to bring favorite holiday themes and characters to life.

Student vaccination requirement takes effect at UB

The Lewiston Jazz Festival Inc. board of directors will host a "Jazz in Lewiston" fundraiser event on Friday and Saturday, Aug. 27-28, at dining establishments in the Village of Lewiston. Of course, the traditional two-day street festival will not take place this year, but jazz music will still be prominent throughout the weekend. DEC announces first documented lake trout reproduction in Lake Erie in more than 60 years

New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Commissioner Basil Seggos announced a "significant milestone" for lake trout rehabilitation efforts in Lake Erie following the confirmed identification of wild fry collected by DEC's Lake Erie fisheries research unit this spring. DEC said the discovery of wild lake trout fry is a historic restoration indicator for a population that was once plentiful, but collapsed due to overfishing, habitat degradation and invasive species.

American Heart Association: 3rd COVID-19 vaccine dose recommended for heart transplant patients, others with weakened immune systems

On Friday, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommended a third dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna COVID-19 vaccine for people with moderately to severely compromised immune systems, including those who have had a heart, stem cell or other organ transplant and are on immunosuppressive treatment, or who have weakened immune systems due to disease or other medical treatment including active cancer therapy.
