The New York Power Authority board of trustees on Tuesday approved $1.1 million in additional funding to help New York's municipal and rural electric cooperative systems bring more hybrid and electric vehicles into their fleets. The additional financial assistance, available through the Municipal and Rural Cooperative Electric Utilities Electric-Drive Vehicle Program, will expand a long-running clean energy partnership that encourages electric vehicle use and reduces greenhouse gas emissions across New York.
$9.5 million facility planned for Saratoga Performing Arts Center

On Tuesday, The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention updated information for fully vaccinated people given new evidence on the B.1.617.2 (Delta) variant of the coronavirus currently circulating in the U.S. It added a recommendation for fully vaccinated people to wear a mask in public indoor settings in areas of substantial or high transmission. Currently, Erie and Niagara counties are labeled moderate risk.

NYS: $200 million available for 5th round of Downtown Revitalization Initiative

Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Tuesday announced $200 million is available for the fifth round of the Downtown Revitalization Initiative. DRI round 5 will provide these funds to communities across the 10 Regional Economic Development Council regions to "bring new life to their downtowns through a comprehensive strategic planning process, followed by the implementation of key projects." The fifth round is being launched as New York rebuilds its economy from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

On Tuesday, the Clean Loop Recycling Center - an initiative by TOMRA of North America - announced a partnership with The Eric Wood Fund. The new collaboration allows recyclers to donate their bottle and can deposit refunds directly to the foundation. A summer celebration event will be held Saturday, Aug. 7, to commemorate the partnership.
Niagara County announces youth employment grant

The Niagara County Workforce Development Board (NCWDB) on Tuesday announced it was awarded a $250,000 grant through Gov. Andrew Cuomo's Gun Violence Prevention Initiative to focus on providing permanent jobs to Niagara Falls youth ages 18-24. Niagara Falls is one of 20 cities receiving these funds in partnership with the New York State Department of Labor.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Tuesday announced the selection of five laboratories to bolster state efforts in identifying COVID-19 variants. The New York State Department of Health is partnering with these laboratories to expand the genetic sequencing of specimens positive for SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19. The selected laboratories have sequencing expertise and experience, as well as capacity and access to SARS-CoV-2 positive specimens from large multicounty areas in New York, outside of New York City.
