DEC takes enforcement action against Cascades Containerboard Packaging Inc.

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation issued a notice of violation (NOV) to Cascades Containerboard Packaging Inc., in the City of Niagara Falls, after the agency determined the facility was generating a persistent noxious odor that resulted in dozens of complaints from area residents, business owners, and state and local officials.

Niagara County DPW announces work on Sunset Drive in Lockport

Niagara County Public Works Commissioner Garret Meal said roadwork on Sunset Drive in Lockport from Upper Mountain Road to Stone Road will begin Monday, June 14. The work includes repairing drainage structures, regrading side ditches and resurfacing Sunset Drive.

Wilson Middle School eighth grader Rayn Cooper recently presented two checks totaling $8,000 to the Dale Shank Fundraiser at the 3F Club in Lewiston. The checks marked the successful completion of a wristband sales fundraiser Cooper held in the Niagara County community in honor of Shank - her role model - a Vietnam veteran and youth hunting mentor at the 3F who is battling cancer.

On Tuesday, June 1, the LGBTQ+ flag was raised in a number of notable locations throughout Niagara County in honor of Pride Month. Flag-raising ceremonies were held at Niagara Falls City Hall, Lockport City Hall, Niagara Falls State Park and, for the first time this year, Artpark.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Thursday announced the dedication of a major project that removed an underutilized, two-mile stretch of the former Robert Moses Parkway - now called the Niagara Scenic Parkway - in the City of Niagara Falls. His team said this work created a stunning new area in Niagara Falls State Park called "Gorgeview," which provides unimpeded access to the Niagara Gorge and improved recreational opportunities for residents and visitors alike.

FeedMore WNY is expanding its efforts to assist older adults in applying for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) - formerly known as food stamps.
