Empire State Development announced the launch of the New York Entertainment Workforce Diversity Grant Program. More than $1 million annually in matching funds will support diversity and inclusivity in job creation and training programs for New York's film and television industries.

Tops Friendly Market and Convergent Energy + Power have partnered to deliver more renewable energy to upstate New Yorkers in the form of community solar paired with battery storage. As a result of this partnership, more than 75 Tops stores will be powered by the solar farms, which will reduce the stores' carbon footprint. The solar-plus-storage projects developed by Convergent provide Tops and upstate New Yorkers access to solar energy whether or not the sun is shining and reduce the state's reliance on power plants during peak demand hours.

Jennifer Leah Buckley, a resident of Grand Island for 14 years, passed away on Jan. 14, 2021, after a long battle with an illness. Born on Aug. 6, 1964, she passed too soon at the age of 56. She is survived by her mother, Janice Piepke of Umatilla, Florida; her partner, Dean Morakis of Grand Island; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Lockport artist Mike Weber of Niagara County Entertainment is partnering with Natalie Brown, program coordinator of the Carnegie Art Center, to create an interactive mural trail in Niagara County. This project will be a series of 12 new murals installed across the county (one per municipality) and painted by 12 different artists.

New York Attorney General Letitia James and New York Department of Environmental Conservation Commissioner Basil Seggos announced a $4 million agreement they said "resolves years of hazardous waste disposal and oil spill contamination at the former Tonawanda Forge site in Tonawanda, New York." The agreement stipulates that American Axle & Manufacturing agrees to compensate the state of New York for costs associated with the state's cleanup of contamination at the site.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Monday updated New Yorkers on the state's progress during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. He announced movie theater capacity will increase to 33% starting April 26. Also on that day, low-risk, indoor and outdoor arts and entertainment - including museums, aquariums, zoos and botanical gardens - will increase to 50% capacity.

The North Tonawanda High School multiclass reunion committee met April 15 to determine whether or not to hold the annual event. With the pandemic and its concerns, testing, social distancing and adhering to state mandates, it was decided in the best interest of all to not hold the event this year.
